Shows and Trials

Conformation, Rally, Scent Work and Obedience are cornerstone American Kennel Club (AKC) events that celebrates a dog's versatility, structure, and training. Conformation showcases how well each dog represents its breed standard, emphasizing structure, movement, and overall appearance. Rally highlights teamwork and communication between handler and dog as they navigate a course of obedience exercises with precision and enthusiasm. Scent Work is a sport where dogs search for and indicate specific target odors hidden in various environments.  Obedience, one of the AKC’s oldest competitions, demonstrates discipline, focus, and the remarkable bond between dog and handler through a series of challenging exercises. Together, these events honor the beauty, intelligence, and dedication of dogs while strengthening the partnership that makes them truly extraordinary companions.

Why Come to a Conformation Show?

❤️ For Everyone

AKC conformation shows celebrate the preservation of purebred dogs — maintaining healthy, sound examples of each breed’s original purpose and characteristics. Whether you’re there to win, learn, or just enjoy the dogs, it’s a unique and educational experience.

🐾 If You’re a Spectator

  • See Beautiful Dogs Up Close: You’ll get to watch some of the best examples of each breed — often dogs that are champions or future champions.

  • Learn About Breeds: It’s one of the best ways to see dozens (sometimes hundreds) of breeds in one place and talk to knowledgeable owners and breeders.

  • Great Family or Hobby Outing: Many shows have vendors selling dog supplies, toys, and gifts, plus events like obedience or agility demonstrations.

  • Photography and Inspiration: It’s a great chance to observe grooming, training, and presentation techniques if you’re interested in showing dogs yourself someday.

🏆 If You’re an Exhibitor or Breeder

  • Evaluate Your Breeding Program: Conformation shows help you see how your dog measures up to the official breed standard. Judges evaluate structure, movement, and temperament — all key traits for responsible breeding.

  • Earn Titles and Recognition: Dogs can earn points toward their AKC Championship and Grand Championship titles, increasing their reputation and breeding value.

  • Network with Other Breeders: You can meet experienced handlers, breeders, and mentors who can help you grow in the sport.

  • Showcase Your Hard Work: Grooming, conditioning, and training for the ring take effort — the show is where it all pays off.

  • Promote Your Kennel: Success in the ring builds credibility and visibility in the dog community.
